ahimsa: to do no harm, nonviolence

Ahimsa has become a favorite Sanskrit word of mine. It symbolizes not only nonviolence toward living beings, but also nonviolence of our words and thoughts. There are many ways violence can be created in our lives and often times the non-physical forms are more powerful and harmful.

Practicing ahimsa can be a positive way to handle difficult situations and dilemmas in your life. Try practicing ahimsa by observing your thoughts. What is more damaging, the situation you are in or your thoughts and intentions that arise from the situation?
